Resolution is not everything — light is
A crisp daytime image means little if your cameras are useless at night, which is when most incidents happen. Prioritise good low-light or infrared performance and proper lighting around the property over chasing the highest megapixel number.
Where is the footage stored?
- On-site recorder (NVR/DVR): reliable, but a thief can take the box. Hide it and back it up.
- Cloud or off-site: footage survives even if equipment is stolen or damaged.
- Check how many days of footage you keep. Incidents are often noticed days later.
Cameras that watch back
Cameras that simply record are a forensic tool — useful after the fact. Cameras linked to off-site monitoring let a control room see an event as it unfolds and dispatch a response. That is the difference between "we have footage of it" and "we stopped it."
