How to Choose a Security Company: 7 Questions to Ask Before You Sign

Choosing a security provider is a decision about who you trust with your family, staff and assets. Before you sign anything, ask these seven questions.

The questions that matter

  1. Are you PSIRA registered? Every legitimate security business and officer in South Africa must be registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority. No exceptions.
  2. Is your licensing valid and paid up? Ask directly. Reputable firms keep all statutory requirements current at all times.
  3. Are you properly insured? General and public liability cover protects both you and them in the event of a major loss.
  4. What is your B-BBEE level? It matters for your own procurement scorecard — X-Pert is a Level II contributor.
  5. Can I contact management directly? You should never struggle to reach a decision-maker. Direct access to executive management is a sign of a serious partner.
  6. Do you actually cover my area? Fast armed response depends on real vehicles nearby, not promises.
  7. How are your officers trained and vetted? Ask about screening and standards before someone in that uniform stands at your gate.
If a provider hesitates on any of these, treat it as your answer.

X-Pert was formed in 1996 and ticks every one of these boxes. Ask us these questions — we are happy to answer all of them.
